I think I am art, not the artist. Regarding my philosophy of my work, it’s important to paint about things you understand, and that you paint what you like. My inspiration for my paintings of cityscapes comes from travels, local field trips and life in Madison. Buildings are in my blood. My great-grandfather, Lew Porter, is the architect who designed the State Capitol, the Red Gym/Old Armory and Science Hall among others. Family is very important to me. When I paint, I stand in front of my custom-made easel my brother built, with one color on my paintbrush searching for just the right spots.

I originally felt like I was an outcast to society. Now I feel like I’m part of society and make contributions like others, selling my art. I feel like my art is part of me and lets people know more about me.
